Branding & Strategy

Purpose of Designing a Website

  • Can we complete the work with very little information about how?
  • Can we figure it out from scratch?
  • Can we figure out what the right result looks like?
  • Research Ability: Do we know where and how to find the information that we need to consider?

How does my website add value? Advertising!

Did we incorporate time-saving techniques like …

Can we consider all aspects of the project?

  • Branding? Color scheme, logo, continuity, favicon
  • Marketing? SEO considerations, use of tags, appealing to your audience
  • Audience? Who IS the audience? Does the content/info/array of info appeal to them? How to reach a wider audience? WHERE your wider audience? Johnny (And moms who like lifestyle blogs.)
  • Niche: People on social media contact me consistently to ask questions about moving/raising young kids abroad. There is very little information out there.
  • Competition: Very little. But the same sites are recommended consistently and often. Even though they’re not very engaging.

Did we tackle tough elements?

  • Imported Data: Clients often have existing website pages and posts that need to be imported. I imported old content to simulate this demand. Old pages/posts were designed with very old WordPress technology and needed to be teased apart and put back together in order to flow with this new design.
  • Customization: There’s no template for this website- each element on every page was thoroughly customized. Sometimes this was accomplished by isolating and editing the CSS and others by building menus and blocks by hand. Out-of-the-box websites look like it and can usually be identified pretty quickly. That’s fine if you’re not trying to distinguish yourself from your competitors, but marketing yourself or your company requires customization and tailoring that reflects your ideals and ideas.
  • Slick Design Elements: Newer WordPress technology allowed for experimentation with before/after image comparisons, YouTube integrations, and other challenging new elements.
  • Variety of Formatting: Are the posts and pages spliced with elements that keep the audience’s interest or add special touches reflective of the designer? (Song at the end of this post.)

Was this project fun and interesting for you?

  • Ease: I hope this page helps you better take notice of the site’s features and qualities
  • Fun: I hope my “advertisements” gave you a laugh.
